Season Of Insults By Dopse Eberefiak

According to Ecclesiastes 3:1 ”There is a time for every thing. A time to be born and a time to die. A time to plant and a time to harvest that which is planted. A time of war and a time of peace.

This time according to the above mentioned bible portion continues endlessly, cutting across every facets of life one could imagine.

However, in the past 365days in Akwa Ibom State, this theory of time has fully manifested in the political cycle especially during this yuletide season; This is a period where politicians rains all sort of abuses on their fellow colleagues, irrespective of size, status, educational qualification or position. It is common to hear Politicians say or described their fellow colleagues as “A political nobody; an expired and never do well politician; a liability to the people; a stooge etc”.

Absolutely, with much guttural emphasis and gusto, the season is here and with a protruding stomach. Yes, the season of insults is here again.

As observed, politicians in the State over time have let out streams of invective, setting bad examples for the younger generations. Their activities, proxy media intervention, inciting statements have continuously fan the embers of disunity, hatred and bare-faced manipulation of the people set views. Several politicians for example; the case of Former Commissioner, Engr. Etido Inyang alleged to have insulted his Godfather, Senator Godswill Akpabio; the State Publicity Secretary of PDP, Ini Ememobong alleged to have insulted the State Publicity Secretary of APC, Hon. Ita Awak etc. This alien political culture is terribly amiss and inarguably has deeply affirmed Akwa Ibom politics as a sleazy game.

Recently, the statements made by the former PDP State Chairman and Political Leader of Ibesikpo Asutan, Prince Uwem Ita Etuk during the empowerment programme of Ibesikpo lawmaker, Hon. Aniekan Uko was perceived by a section of the crowd to be insulting. The statements which have been given various interpretations by pundits was said to be the remote cause of a sudden uproar that ended the programme in fiasco.

The statements as quoted “we no longer want a December Senator. In Uyo Senatorial District come 2019, I know who will not be the Senator, but I don’t know who will be”.
The statement though has some serious political undertones was touted by many to be an indirect message to the present Senator representing Uyo Senatorial District, Senator Bassey Albert. But the big bang on the minds of the people including yours truly is that, if Obong Bassey Albert is a December Senator? Which Senator from Uyo Senatorial District was a December Senator?

According to observers, the street boys of the area whose loyalty to Prince Etuk appears to have long departed and swimming in shambles over his neglect were apparently peeved by the statements of the political leader.
Shortly after the political leader had dropped the now trending comments, there was an inexplicable situation mimicking a scene similar to that of the falcons attacking the falconer. Chairs became weapons and yours truly in the midst of the commotion couldn’t see clearly. But for those who claimed they did, the political leader was said to have being rough handled by the street boys of the area.

Yours truly prays this shouldn’t be true. Prince Uwem Ita Etuk, a.k.a. the Godfather, PDP dagger, dragged and beaten with chairs by the street boys in politics, in his own residence, home town, in a state he has made name, waves, spread his political tentacles across every length and breath. What humiliation. What embarrassment. What an insult.

If this is true, it is indeed a lesson for the political class to take cautions that power is more like revolving door, while they take a shot in, it should totally be service above self as that is what will earn and sustain their respect at every station of their life especially from the street boys in politics or political urchins, as the hit the exit door.

For now, while we wait for counter insults, has anyone heard from December Senators? Yours truly hasn’t gotten his December Rice.
